Vision insurance provides individuals with an annual benefit towards ‘routine’ eye exams, frames, lenses, and/or contacts. Pediatric vision is also embedded within all medical policies for children under the age of 19 and provides benefits for frames or contact lenses.
While vision insurance is designed to only cover updates in lens prescriptions and the materials needed, it is an individual’s medical policy that will cover everything else associated to one’s eye health. Medical conditions include allergies, dryness, infections, floaters, cataracts, macular degeneration, or glaucoma to name a few.
On average, the annual benefit for most plans is around $150. Even if you have 20/20 vision, it can still be beneficial to obtain a vision policy to use towards sunglasses, and obtain the additional discounts accompanied with the plan.
